Situated in Ohauiti (Tauranga) in a newly established elevated subdivision with views shafts to Mount Maunganui and beyond on a small site with tight developer covenants setout the parameters for this couples first home build.

The brief: My clients wanted a lovely Architecturally designed home, on a budget. With her father on the tools, it was a collaboration right from the start while meeting over dinner. The north facing site allowed itself to large glazing and living areas opening out onto out door entertaining spaces. Quickly, I recommended the use of scissor trusses through the living areas' to create volume and a sun filled space for their family and friends.

aesthetics: Low cost cladding options were selected for the exterior, with 'random width' vertical fibre cement boards and large bricks for reduced installation timeframes. Black & White 'colour-blocking' with soffits painted out in the same tones, ties the dwelling together while the feature entry door lets your guest know that they have arrived and fun times live inside this home.

 

My clients often mention that other surrounding property owners comment on the look / feel of their home, stating that it must have cost a-lot more then theirs. Only to find out that the cost is very similar to their new build, with clever design and money spent in all the right places.
